On Friday, June 16, 2017, Mr. Thomas John Lomenda of Cold Lake, previously of Medicine Hat, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 years. Thomas will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Stella Lomenda; children, Clifford (Patsy) Lomenda, Karen Lomenda, Lorraine Grouette, Sandra (Randy) Stolz, Tim Lomenda and Pat (Stan) Smith; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Stan (Olive) Lomenda, David Lomenda, Donald (Emily) Lomenda, Bertha Oyka and Blanche Provick. Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Bertha Lomenda; and his siblings, Clifford Lomenda, Arthur Lomenda, Irene Nagy, Delma Slobodzian, Marge Heaney, Kathleen Antosh and Frank Lomenda. Tom was born and raised in Esterhazy, SK into a large loving family. As a young man, he moved to Alberta and worked in the oil patch, before moving into manufacturing for Burtex. Tom wanted to be his own boss and in 1971 he started a successful block plant in Calgary, AB with his brother-in-law, Joe. They sold Allkind Masonry in 1993. Tom and Stella retired to Medicine Hat before moving to a retirement home in Cold Lake to be near family. Tom was passionate about his woodworking hobby and made many craftsmanship-quality pieces that will be cherished by many. A prayer vigil was held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Northern Lights Funeral Chapel, Bonnyville, Alberta. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, with Father Albert Sayson officiating. Interment will follow at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Thomas’ memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #102, 73 - 7 Street SE, Medicine Hat, Alberta, T1A 1J2.
